SIC and Territorial Intelligence in 2008: from Compiègne to Besançon
Territorial Intelligence is a concept that is often referred to in the field of Information and Communication Sciences. It is a study object that is officially inscribed in the 71st section of the CNU (National Council of Universities, ICS section). It is also present in many works that are published in this disciplines, for example on the website ArchiveSIC, by the SFSIC (French Society of ICS) or by ISDM (http://isdm.tln.fr/).
In the same time, the works led in Territorial Intelligence at the European level consider as essential the papers and functions of information and communication in the tools and methods of territorial governance.
2008 is an important year for crossed research activities in these disciplines: Compiègne welcomes the 16th Congress of the SFSIC from June, the 11th to June, the 13th, and Besançon will welcome the sixth International annual Conference of Territorial Intelligence on October, the 16th and the 17th.

Information and communication sciences: affirmation and plurality
The 16th Congress of the SFSIC will take place in the Technological University of Compiègne (U.T.C.), thirty year after the first Congress organized within this university. This anniversary meeting is the maturity and generational renewal one. Supported by an unprecedented mobilisation -201 abstracts were sent to answer the call for communications- it opens to complex issues such as the communication markets globalization and their consequences on the production of cultural goods, the evolution of the mediation types in varied fields such as politics, museums culture, documentation, reconfiguration of social networks, communities and organizations due to the implementation of collaborative digital devices of data exchange and of work.
This congress is also the occasion to wonder about the field of information and communication in itself: the rules of its scientific production, its relations with industry, with the information and communication professionals, the conditions of an excellent, critical and reflexive training in this field.
Nowadays, the paradigms, objects, methodologies, territories and problematics diversity illustrates the pluralism, the diversity of the sub-disciplines and the cohabitation of currents that are also plural in theirselves. The social and academic image of our discipline is based on its construction conscience and on its identity affirmation: this congress should lead us to remind our “plural unity” in a genealogical prospect, to wonder about the metamorphoses of the couple “information-communication” and to pose the new stakes of the ICS in a context that has notably changed during the latest thirty years.
The UTC and the laboratory COSTECH, which welcome this important event, want to give to their Region and to their Town a dynamic image up to their implication in the fundamental and applied research activity.

Sixth International annual Conference of Territorial Intelligence, in Besançon on October, the 16th and 17th 2008
Tools and Methods of Territorial Intelligence
After the conferences Region, identity and sustainable development in Alba Iulia (Romania) on September 2006, and Territorial Intelligence and Governance. Participatory research-action and territorial development, in Huelva (Spain), on October 2007, it will be the last one organised by the Coordination Action of the European Network of Terrritorial Intelligence (caENTI) funded by the 6th Resarch Programme of the European Union. It will expose the progress of the caENTI and the prospects of the ENTI for the 7th FP of the EU.
