The deadline to send the abstracts for the international conference of territorial intelligence in Huelva is June, the 30th 2007.

During this meeting, Carlos BERZOSA, expert in global economics and Rector of the Complutense University of Madrid, and Tomas RODRÍGUEZ-VILLASANTE, expert in participative research-action, will intervene. The articles that will be selected by the Scientific Committee will be published in the first volume of the international review of Territorial intelligence.

The next scientific coordination meeting of the WP5 “Governance principles” will take place in Liège (Belgium) on January, the 19th and the 20th 2007. For 2007, the WP5 aims at presenting a “Quality letter” of the research-action applied to sustainable development, what is an important task.

This presentation should be made during the Huelva conference at the end of October 2007. This “Quality letter” will include the ethical and methodological principles that should be respected when someone leads a social research activity that is genuinely at the territorial action service and in favour of the territories governance.

The high-tech internet GIS (geographic information system) solutions are mostly very expensive. Therefore the usability of freeware Google Maps and Windows' Virtual Earth Map Control was tested as activity of CAENTI WP 4M by Peter Pehani (IAPS ZRC SAZU) to find a solution that is cost effective, simple and well known.Both solutions are not appropriate for serious internet GIS application, since they are much too simple. However, they are very practical if simple and easy – and cheap – solutions are looked for.

In the frame of CAENTI Wp4m activity and SISTEMaPARC projects Žiga Kokalj and Tomaž Podobnikar (IAPS ZRC SAZU) studied Triglav national park (Slovenia). Their analyse of the land use dynamics was based on analogue maps, aerial photographs, and digital datasets since the end of 18th century until present.

Historical maps are one of the most important data sources for spatial analyses of the historical environment. The study tried to get clearer understanding of technical and semantic aspects of historical maps together with interpreted GIS-based land use datasets.

The SEGEFA of the University of Liege participated to the project of the euregional information service (SIE-EIS), by gathering and processing the stastistics about the Liege province, at the districts and communes scale. The first phase of the EIS project (2005-2006) led to the execution of a statistical publication [PDF] in February of 2007.

On February 23 in Ljubljana the agreement to establish the first Franco Slovenian European Associated Laboratory LEA ModeLTER (European Laboratory for Modelling of Landscapes and Territories over the Long Term) has been signed.

Next April, the Integra Plus staff (Durbuy, Belgium) will make an analysis of the data that were gathered from 700 users of the partners organizations. The results will be published on the Integra Plus portal [http://www.integraplus.be/]. At this occasion, the data processing protocol that was established in the WP6C in 2006 will be experimented.

Organized by the univerity of Salerno, the International Conference "Territorial intelligences, regional identities and sustainable development" will take place in Fisciano-Vietri, in the province of Salerno. A coordination meeting of the Work Package 4 “Fundamental Methods" of the CAENTI, and a coordination meeting of the coordination group WP6e “European Observatory of Primary school”, will take place during this period.

ENTI is a project of network of excellence in territorial intelligence at the horizon 2009 in the Seventh Framework Program of the European Union for the Research and Development. This project, that will be submitted in the framework of the second invitation to tender that is planned for 2009, at the end of the CAENTI , should be as of now prepared as it implies the extension and the reinforcement of the research excellence, the definition of an integrated research project and the development of complementary training, edition and transfer activities.

Philippe HERBAUX thesis was publicly presented in the University of Toulon-Var on May, the 31st 2006. It is entitled “Territorial intelligence, from a general representation to the “finality” concept” and it was received with a very honourable mention. With a very strong epistemological contribution, this thesis that was made in a research-action way helps finding a reading direction of the information mutualisation processes within the firms and organizations. All these elements are presented in an integrated approach of territorial intelligence.

Dr. Krištof Oštir has co-organized a special section on LIDAR (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) remote sensing in the frame of GIS in Slovenia conference, held on 26th September 2006. His presentation described the potential of laser imaging for the detection of past cultural landscapes in the forested areas. The conference has been organized by the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and gathered more than hundred people from academia, education, business and government. A conference proceeding was published as well and dr. Tomaž Podobnikar was a member of the editorial board.
