caENTI On-line Catalyse Toolkit: the works gets along

Since the international conference of Huelva 2007 (see blog), the Catalyse toolkit has got along: the software, the methods and the use recommendations evolved. The specifications and the execution in progress of the online version of the tools and accompaniment tools mobilize a dozen of researchers and actors.

In the prospect of the international conference of Besançon 2008 (see blog) and of the end of the present project (February 2009), we evaluated the works evolution during the seminar of the WP6 in Liege in February: the occasion for all the caENTI actors to discover the new tools and to program the evolutions.

Indeed, what is the present state of the works? Let's open the toolkit…

Tools: inventory

> Pragma, software of needs diagnosis, is stabilized in its standalone version of classic "key-in" and integrates the European guide produced by the caENTI WP6C. Consequently, it is finalized and it will be available in the Catalyse toolkit.

Pragma

jPragma

> jPragma is the cross-platform version of the "classic" pragma ; developed in Java (what explains the initial "j"), this software can be used as on Windows as on Linux and on Mac. The operations of questionnaire digitalization, data key-in and flat sorting are validated. This version can also communicate with the other ones by exports and imports.

We still have work left so as it is totally finalized, in particular its integration with Anaconda and its inter-operability with the Pragma online version (see below). The complete quantitative and qualitative processing remain to be finalized and validated.

> ePragma is the online version of Pragma, it can be used from any computer connected to internet, what allows the network managing of the questionnaires key-in. Presently, it is able to make the basic operations: questionnaire digitalization, data key-in, flat sorting, exports and imports.

We still have to develop the advanced quantitative processing, the integration of the qualitative processing and a good documentation. The biggest work we have to do before the end of the project is the execution of its integration in a web turnkey tool like a CMS.

ePragma

Anaconda

> Anaconda is the software of qualitative processing (FAC (1) and HAC (2)) and of representation of these results. 2007 was the year of finalization of the two modes: calculations and representation.

Nevertheless, the interface keeps remaining to be improved, and the integration with the jPragma software will allow in 2008 finalizing the procedures of files management in the TICS (3) systemic vision.

> Territorial Information System (TIS)

This system organizes the management and the cartographic representation of contextual indicators and of data that are organized within the TICS. Specifications were written in 2007, a solution based on Philcarto was suggested.

These works will be used to design and execute the portal of the European territorial indicators that are led by the WP6i and WP6s in 2008.

Accompany the method

All the caENTI members are associated at different degree to these activities. In particular, the works led by the WP6u on the uses of the Catalyse method will lead to a use and recommendations handbook necessary to implement a Catalyse observatory.

Lastly, the online publication of this Catalyse toolkit will be in collaboration with the WP3, so as to lead to its integration in the portal of territorial intelligence, as well as to a stabilized version of what we call a "Catalyse CMS".

Interested by one of these software?

To allow a first step in this direction, the portal already hosts a Catalyse blog that allows downloading existing and validated tools: http://www.territorial-intelligence.eu/catalyse/
