European Network of Territorial Intelligence (ENTI) board meeting

ENTI board, the European Network of Territorial Intelligence board, met online in the MSHE Claude Nicolas Ledoux (Besançon, France) to define and schedule the pursuit of the research activities started by the caENTI (Coordination Action of the European Network of Territorial Intelligence).

It discussed the project that will be elaborated by ENTI to answer the call for project of the 7th PCRDT of the European Union.

The research activities of ENTI were reorganized within the framework of five axes:

  1. [territory] Territory and territorial intelligence ontology
  2. [indicators] Accessibility of territorial indicators of the sustainable development
  3. [governance] Territorial governance for sustainable development
  4. [vulnerability] Vulnerability of territories and vulnerable populations
  5. [culture] Relations between the culture and the sustainable territorial development

An international research group was constituted around the universities of Franche-Comté (France), Huelva (Spain), La Plata (Argentina) and Outaouais (Québec, Canada) to animate the research program within ENTI.

A first detailed examination of the call for projects of the 7th PCRDT concerning the socioeconomic and human sciences allowed selecting three topics.

The most ambitious project, is a “large scale integrating project addressing an important societal challenge”, on the topic “Creating and adapting jobs in Europe in the context of a socio-ecological transition” of the area 8.2.1 “Socio-economic development trajectories” in the activity 8.2: “Combining economic, social and environmental objectives in a European perspective – Paths towards sustainable development”. The budget may be from 6,5 (minimum) up to 8 millions Euros in a duration of 5 years. It implies a important cofinancing of millions Euros, difficult to gather in times of crisis.

Two other medium scale collaborative projects were also discussed. One is the topic “Local welfare systems favouring social cohesion”, in the same area and activity. The other in the topic “Demand-driven research and innovation policies for growth, welfare and wellbeing”, in the area 8.1.1 “Changing role of knowledge throughout the economy” in activity 8.1“ Growth, employment and competitiveness in a knowledge society – the European case.”

The three projects involve two axes of research of ENTI: [indicators] and [governance]. Another common axe is "The combination of the economic, social and environmental objectives at the level of the dynamics of the European territories in the context of the socio-ecological transition." [transition]

A next board meeting will be held in Salerno November 4. A series of workshops will be organized the same day to develop the axes and research activities and to validate the proposed response to the call of FP7.

The board of ENTI has extended the deadline for proposals to Salerno 2009 conference until September 25.
