The prospects of the European network of territorial intelligence

The end of February 2009 corresponded to the end of the Coordination Action of the European Network of Territorial Intelligence (caENTI), which began in March 2006 for a three-year duration. During this period, the caENTI was funded by the European Commission within the 6th FPRTD framework, in order to integrate current research on territorial intelligence tools. The objective was to give them a European dimension. We thank the fifteen partners, universities and territorial actors, and the 150 researchers who contributed to the caENTI activities and success.

We also thank all the people and organizations involved in the caENTI project at different levels and wishing to join the European network of territorial intelligence or to be associated to it at the international scale and suggesting new activities in the prospect of a network of excellence.

Leaders of the main caENTI work packages constituted a board. Representatives of the network partners are presently setting up a Steering Committee. Both structures are evolving and are wide open to all organizations and researchers that/who will formalize their commitment. To do so, they will use documents that will be sent to all those that/who expressed their interest and that will also be put online in March.

We should now manage an important heritage:

Some projects are already under way:

  • The federative portal territoriesnet.org with the South-American network territorios posibles and other international partners
  • the continuation of the development of the research base on the research teams about territory at the international scale
  • a catalogue of local projects of territorial intelligence
  • the Journal of Territorial Intelligence
  • the European master of territorial intelligence

Meetings are already being organized, among which the main ones are presently:

  • in Strasbourg in June to launch the network
  • the territorial intelligence conference, from November 4th to 7th 2009, in Salerno (Italy), "Territorial intelligence and development culture"
  • a scientific symposium and days of reflection for actors in Rennes and Nantes in January 2010 to debate and finalize the research project of network of excellence. Almost ten seminars are also suggested in order to favour the debates within the poles.
