An European Letter of Quality on the Research-Action
Blanca Miedes Ugarte, you are leader of the WP5 group of CAENTI. Can you explain the objectives of this work package?
B. M.: CAENTI concept of territorial intelligence refers to all knowledge relating to the understanding of territorial structures and dynamics, as well as the tools used by public and private actors to produce, use and share this knowledge in favour of sustainable territorial development. In this way, we want to support projects when they want to ameliorate of decision making processes in the territory by public and private actors in relation to the needs of its population. From this perspective, territorial intelligence is a tool for territorial governance. Both the research groups and the actors involved in CAENTI have extensive experience in the field of action-research applied to the solving of socio-economic problems in very different contexts. We have to consider the central principles of the action-research and it was always the notion of “participation” that was in the center of our discussions. It will be the quality of the participatory collaborative what will allow better results of the action-research both from the scientific approach and from the action approach. But the quality of the participation, it’s what? How participation can to be really effective and durable in a partnership between researches and actors?
It’s the role of your Letter of quality?
B.M.: Yes. We think that the intensity and quality of the participation is what determines the quality of the action-research processes. For this reason, the objective is the design and construction of tools that contribute to the development of these necessary participatory processes. The WP5 work group has defined what they think are the four pillars supporting the quality of the participation in the action-research:
- The mobilisation of a territory’s resources.
- The mutualisation of knowledge and competences.
- The responsibility of all the participants.
- The common property of the results.
And for each pillars, we have to identify their respective objectives, means to be performed, added value and ICT specific role. But this document is a draft. For WP5 group, it’s very important that all the members of CAENTI react on the contents. All points of view will be welcome!
